No worries!
First week in A La Carte kitchen and Mom comes to visit!
28.10.2008
Welp, this past week was great! I had a few tests which I managed to do well in even though my anxiety levels were streaming high in waiting for my mom to arrive! Nothing too new with school. We moved to A La Carte kitchen, which is the gourmet restaurant line here at Les Roches. It was a lot of fun. I got to cook, decorate the plates nicely, and even got to do gourmet desserts!
My mom arrived on Thursday! Man, is she ever a trooper! I was fascinated that she got off on the right train station, muchless made it up the mountain and to the hotel! Not only that, the woman even got tubes put in her ears two days prior to her travels! I am still fascinated! After I finished class on Thursday, I headed to her room. Luckily, she got a room here in the hotel I live. They set her up quite nicely as she had a mountain view room, porch, and a rather large room! I took this time to get spoiled as I stayed in the room with her while she was here!
On Friday after I took my oral French exam, mom and I headed to the Jungfrau/Interlaken region of Switzerland. The train ride was about two hours north, which is not bad at all. We arrived at our hotel in Murren. In order to get to where we were going to sleep we had to take a cable car up a steep mountain and a fifteen minute train ride across. It was incredible!
After the travels, we decided to sit on our porch with a glass/bottle of wine as it overlooked several amazing mountains! It was incredible! I can honestly say, this is my favorite part of Switzerland. It's the kind of place that the beauty is all around you to the point of tears. I won't lie, I almost cried it was so nice! After wonderful conversation with my wonderful mother we headed to grab some local German/Swiss food. Boy did we over-order, but it was great! Such a relaxing weekend!
Saturday, we woke up and grabbed the train to Jungfrau (which is also known as the "Top of Europe"). We did it all! We took pictures, had a wonderful lunch, and enjoyed the snow around us! One time, Mom was looking ahead at me and she slipped and fell! No worries, she was fine...but boy it was funny!
We headed back up to where I live on Sunday. After re-checking Mom in and refreshing, I decided to take my mom on a "Becca Tour" of my school and it's surrounding area. She began to not feel so sorry for me as she got to see the view from my school...Yes, I am spoiled. We ate fondue at a local Swiss restuarant. Great food, local wine, and fabulous company! I decided to go to school yesterday so I could take today off. After school I took my mom to A La Carte. It was so funny! It was the student's first time working in fine dining and the head man was yelling and screaming. One side of me is saying "I wish it could have been a normal night's serving in A La Carte" as another side of me is saying "So, what is normal anyway?!". Such a great time!
Unfortunately, the day both Mom and I have not been looking forward to happened today. As I hestiantly got up from bed this morning, slowly headed to my room for a shower, and down for breakfast I began thinking of how forunate I am. We looked at the schedule to see when the next bus was heading down to the train station and were on our way. The bus ride took 40 minutes or so, which made things slow. I wanted it that way, though.
Here comes the bad part...after we arrived at the train station, each with luggage in hand, we checked the train schedule. I looked at my mom quite sad as I asked her what she wanted to do. Obviously, through the great company and great conversation we have covered a lot of land for such a short amount of time. There really wasn't much else we could do. Afterall, we did just eat breakfast. The next train left for Zurich in ten minutes. Oh man, ten minutes. After I asked my mom what she wanted to do she replied hesitantly, "Well, I guess I should go" with tears in both of our eyes both close to losing it. As things began to seem blurry while tears were filling up my eye sockets, I began to think about all of the wonderful time we had together and how it will soon be taken by a stupid train. I did not want her to go, but I knew procrastinating only makes it worse. I saw her off after I helped her load her luggage onto the train and after a quick glimpse of her in tears (as was I) I was on my way back up the mountain.
Man that was very hard! I think I just recently stopped crying...and she left four hours ago! I am so blessed. I am so lucky to not only have a wonderful mom and family, but to have a mom come and visit! I have been spoiled rotten!
Enough of the tears! Things are looking up on the mountain. The skating rink opened this past weekend. I will probably make an attempt to skate this weekend. Should be interesting! No worries, I have international insurance for the time being haha! I hope everyone back at home is doing well. I can't wait to be home for the holidays!
For those of you in need, I am still praying hard.
Love and miss incredibly,
Becca
